A young engineer Wit (Daniel Olbrychski) receives a telegram about his father’s illness and returns to the old family villa, where his family, unseen for years, is waiting. And it is quite a decadent bunch: a bibulous father, a dotty aunt or a neurotic sister Bella – in this role a wonderful Maja Komorowska, about whom the director said that she knew more about Bella than he himself. This peculiar meeting over the years is watched by Wit’s colleague (Jan Nowicki), who will be entangled in some family games… Family Life is a psychodrama about an attempt to escape from one’s roots and the determinism of genes, which is difficult to overcome. One of the best films by Krzysztof Zanussi will be shown in a digitally reconstructed version.
