We set off in the spring! In the 12th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners under the slogan On the Road, we will watch Polish films in which the theme of travelling is the key – the one in space, and the metaphorical one. These will be both classic road movies, reviving the myth of wandering through life, searching, great adventure and liberation from false values – we will see it both in the Oscar-winning Paweł Pawlikowski’s famous Ida and Pardon – the latest work of Jan Jakub Kolski, appreciated during the last Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia. We will also look for the theme of the journey in the genre cinema – the energetic Panic Attack by Paweł Maślona, where everyone tries in their own way to break away from reality, or in the absolute classic of Polish cinema, considered by many as the best Polish film of all time – Blind Chance by Krzysztof Kieślowski. This long-forbidden movie, uses the classic opposition of the square sphere – the „square” order of bourgeois reality, and the proper journey of the beat sphere (bliss, happiness), makes us think about what really guides our lives.
The screenings will be accompanied by lectures and meetings with filmmakers, film experts and experts, who paint the broader social and historical context of each title. The whole, as always, takes place in English, so that all residents of Wrocław – regardless of where they come from – can learn about the roads and sideways of Polish cinema. We meet as usual on Thursdays at 19:00 in room 3 of the unique New Horizons Cinema. See You on the road!
